Family Vacation in Switzerland
We planned our family vacation to Switzerland according to a family event we had there.
Clearly, if we were already going to Switzerland, it had to include the most magical scenic, nature, and water trips we could ever dream of! 😍
From the start, we planned to stay in one of the most beautiful and tourist-friendly cities in Switzerland, during the peak season—June.
So, we already started off on the right foot 😊
So, what’s the most enchanting city in Switzerland that you absolutely can’t miss? And what are the must-see spots for your family trip in one of the most beautiful countries in the world! ☺️
Lucerne, Switzerland.
Lucerne is known as one of the most visited places in Switzerland—and for good reason!
Beyond its central location, which makes it easy to reach the mountains and other magical spots within Switzerland, the city itself is stunning and unique, offering plenty of tourist attractions. The main highlight is ‘Lake Lucerne’—a breathtaking lake surrounded by mountains and nature.
The city isn’t very large, but it perfectly blends ancient architecture with more modern and colorful buildings.
Lucerne is filled with restaurants, cozy boutique hotels, charming Airbnb apartments, and impressive boutique shopping avenues for those who love to shop.
Our apartment was in the heart of Lucerne, just a 4-minute walk from the lake. And even though we traveled during a hectic season with large crowds, there’s still a sense of calm, nature, and tranquility that’s always in the air. After all, it’s Switzerland ;

The boat ride on the lake is not to be missed. It’s an amazing experience for families (and even couples). The beauty that surrounds the lake is almost impossible to put into words… it’s truly something you have to see with your own eyes.
We chose to take the boat ride at sunset, and honestly, I highly recommend doing it at that time. There’s no direct sunlight, it’s more pleasant, and it’s just more enjoyable to take in the scenery during that hour.”
Let me know if you need further adjustments!
Overall, it’s really fun to stroll around the lake in the evening. The area is bustling with tourists, all the restaurants and cafés are open, and there’s a vacation vibe in the air.🥰
Switzerland: Nature and Mountain Adventures
Switzerland is a treasure trove of stunning natural landscapes. Just a short journey into the mountains, and you’ll be immersed in breathtaking views and the tranquility of the great outdoors.
Before embarking on our adventures, we carefully considered several key factors to select the perfect destinations to explore. Each choice promised unique experiences and unforgettable moments in this enchanting region
Distance, transport options, and costs for travel and attractions.
Mount Pilatus:
Mount Pilatus is located just at the foot of Lucerne, a quick 10-minute drive from the city center. Here, you’ll find the cable car that takes you up the mountain.
In the summer months, the only snow left on the mountain is at the very top, in section three accessible by the cable car. This area attracts tourists looking to experience the height and majesty of the mountain. However, we opted to skip it. Most visitors concentrate on the middle section of the mountain, where you’ll find various attractions such as rope climbing, tightrope walking, a sort of mini rappelling, and toboggan runs.We actually started at the lowest part of the mountain accessible by the cable car, which was primarily frequented by locals. There was a small playground for kids, creating a really nice atmosphere. And the view from there is absolutely THRILLING! Of course, you can’t miss the photo opportunities in this beautiful scenery!
We enjoyed our breakfast there, which we had packed, and it turned out to be a smart choice since the higher sections were much busier and crowded with people
That said, you definitely shouldn’t miss the unique middle section of the mountain. Here, we tried one attraction that involved walking on ropes, which was relatively easy and suitable for small children. We also enjoyed the toboggan run that runs along this part of the mountain. It was a gentle, non-scary attraction for kids, and we had a blast!
Regarding the costs for visiting Mount Pilatus during our visit: it was 20 Swiss francs per adult for each section of the mountain (a total of 40 francs for the two sections we explored), while the price for children aged 6 and up is exactly half that of adults. Admission is free for children under 6. The attractions within the mountain incur additional, but relatively modest fees.
The Town of Engelberg:
Wow, I have so much to say about this magical place! It feels like stepping into a postcard—so vivid and incredible!
Engelberg is also considered a very popular destination, as it lies right at the foot of one of the most famous mountains in Switzerland—Mount Titlis, from which the cable car ascends to the peak.
While there is a train that brings tourists to the town headed for the mountain, we chose to go by car for several reasons
- The main reason is that we didn’t plan to hike up the mountain; we mainly wanted to experience the beauty and scenery of the town.
- The train passes through breathtaking landscapes visible only from the windows and arrives right in the town center. Since we wanted to enjoy the views and nature, we didn’t want to miss the most unique and beautiful spots
Along the way, there are fields, cows, horses, and stunning places owned by local families—where you can stop and ask to visit. The size and power of the beauty and nature there is something hard to put into words
ואחד המקומות המדהימים לעצירה
As you approach Engelberg, you’ll be greeted by a breathtaking sight: a stunning lake, just a few meters before entering the town. This gem may not be large, but its beauty is captivating. With organized parking nearby, visitors can easily find a spot to soak in the views. Benches line the water’s edge, inviting you to sit back and enjoy the serene turquoise waters that shimmer in the sunlight. The peaceful atmosphere here is intoxicating—it’s the perfect spot to lose track of time, simply gazing, feeling, and connecting with the tranquility of nature.
Once you venture into Engelberg, the charm continues. The town buzzes with life, featuring enchanting houses, lively restaurants, and a mix of travelers exploring the area. The stunning backdrop of nature envelops the entire scene, creating an idyllic holiday atmosphere.
For those arriving by car, there’s an added bonus: deeper into the town, you’ll discover cascading waterfalls, flowing rivers, and the stunning natural beauty that surrounds Engelberg, making it a perfect destination for nature lovers and adventurers alike!
Additional Recommended Spots
Some information about recommended places in Switzerland that we didn’t visit on this trip
Rain Waterfalls – a bit of a remote spot from where we stayed, closer to Zurich (about a 50-minute train ride from Zurich to Rhine Falls). The area is divided into the southern side of the falls and the northern side. There are various attractions, with the main one being the boat tours that take you close to the falls. The boat tours are divided into routes by color, with each color representing different boats, different tour paths, different times, and of course, different costs. The boat tour prices are not very expensive (around 10 francs for an adult). There is also a playground for kids and a train ride for a family tour around the falls. The scenery is interesting, and there’s even the option for rappelling above the falls.
Mount Titlis – Although we got really close to it, we personally opted out of climbing this mountain. [I think families should prioritize Mount Pilatus instead]. Facts about Titlis – it is much larger than Pilatus and also taller. The upper part has more snow that remains there even in summer. (In winter, many tourists come to ski on this mountain). It is divided into more sections and has a much larger number of attractions. The price per person is about 2.5 times that of Mount Pilatus.
If you’re nature lovers, not afraid of a little hiking, and looking to strengthen your leg muscles 😉 and especially if you’re seeking a family vacation filled with beauty, tranquility, and fresh air to clear your mind!
This is the perfect vacation for you.👈🏻
