7 Most important tips when flying with children
After quite a few flights with the kids, from a very young age,
I’ve learned from flight to flight what the most important things are, some even critical, for flying with children in order to make the experience as smooth and comfortable as possible for them. And for us 😉
In this post, I compiled the 7 most important tips for flying with children.
Flying with kids Tip #1: Earplugs
For young children, takeoff and landing can cause strong earaches. Of course, some children are more sensitive than others.
For example, Shai hardly feels it at all, while Yaeli (at age 6) is still very sensitive with her ears.
Earplugs can greatly ease discomfort for the child both during takeoff and landing.
*During the flight itself, of course, you can take them off; it doesn’t matter much during that time.
Flying with kids - Tip #2: Pain Relievers
Don’t skip this!
Two things to know:
- Always buy a small liquid up to 100 ml.
- Usually, there won’t be a problem bringing small pain relievers for children onto the plane, but keep in mind that there may be places where it can be problematic to bring it on the plane.
In any case, I found that this is one of the most important things in flying with kids.”

Flight with Kids - Tip #3: bring Long and Warm Clothing + Comfortable Blanket.
Even on summer flights, the plane itself is usually relatively cool, so I always bring relatively long and warm clothing for the kids for the flight itself, and of course, they should be comfortable enough for them.
Especially since kids often fall asleep on flights, even if they’re not very long, especially on overnight flights.
This always makes me concerned, so I also bring a comfortable blanket for them. While some flights allow you to request one, it’s not advisable to rely on that because it’s not certain they will have or give you one. And even if they do, blankets are often thin and not warm enough, especially for babies or youngsters who need that wrapped feeling while sleeping.
Don't forget, they're comfort equals, peaceful /relaxed flight 🙂"
Flying with kids Tip #4: Favorite Toy or Doll
Children can easily ‘lose it’ when they’re in an unfamiliar place or simply not in their comfortable and familiar environment. Therefore, always having a small toy or beloved doll can bring back their comfort and sense of belonging.”
Flying with kids Tip #5: Plenty of Snacks, and Treats.
The more, the better 😉
Food is always important in my opinion, especially when it comes to kids. Even if they eat the food served on the plane, there’s always quite a bit of time at the airport itself, during checks, and in general until you reach your destination. I like to pack a well-organized bag of food with ready-made sandwiches, fruits and vegetables for easy snacking, snacks that the kids love, some cookies or sweets, and of course, small water bottles.
Flying with kids Tip #6: Pre-download Movies to Smartphone/Tablet..
Another thing I recommend not to skip. Even if you usually limit screen time for kids, on a flight, it’s an absolute life -saver😇
In advance at home, download favorite movies or shows onto a well-organized folder for the flight.”
FlYING with Kids - Tip #7: Coloring Books + Crayons.
If there’s one tip, I feel strongly about placing emphasis on* +++ it’s this one!
The first time I brought coloring books, crayons, and activity books for the kids, I felt like I might be overdoing it, but! Ultimately, I discovered it was the smartest thing to do. It kept them so occupied during the flight, and it was a wonderfully quiet and excellent activity!!! It made the flight so much smoother with them.”
